I am just about wore out from all the showing in June! In last issue I told you guys I'd keep you posted on our members that showed at State 4-H and Southeast Regionals. So first off, I'll start with Ross in team-penning because he was riot! He and Cole were chasing the cows at the end while Laniey on Mae was waiting by the pen. About a minute into the game, Meeko is busy spinning and cutting those cows and then Ross's saddle snaps off at the cinch! So he flies off in the other direction and lands between Meeko's legs(near to being violated in the crotch) and thankfully good ole Meeko doesn't move a step! As soon as he stands up, I hear someone screaming (his mother) "Get on!! bareback-style!!" It was on from there, Ross and Meeko was just spinning on a dime and finally Cole and Ross managed to get two cows down to the pen. Sooooo.... then.......Mae all the sudden decides that she doesn't want to be within 20 ft of them and those smart cows saw that and ran right past her to the herd. Then the buzzer went off. It was so insane and everyone in the crowd gave Ross a standing ovation! No team was able to get the cows in, but this team was the closest by far! He also did well on TC Too Tardy to Speak, had a nice jog and walk, and the lope was nice in the beginning but as soon as there was open rail, the young pony wanted to race it! Mae did well in the pony classes in English. Cole did very well on her junior pony Amber Rose in Western, placing 8th overall in the State and placed in pony hunter under saddle as well, so she probably will go to the Regional in Clemson, SC. Andrea had a great time with Secret Weapon starting with 2nd in showmanship, 9th in horsemanship, WON the trail class, and 7th in reining, so she was tied for reserve overall, but got broke with 3rd! She also got ninth overall in English and she didn't jump. She is showing in Clemson, SC. Briana Kindig was going to show, but unfortunate circumstances kept her at home even from the SER, but I hope to see her show next year!

So after an exhausting week at state (I stayed up to the wee hours braiding, followed by helping my lesson students prepare), Andrea and I had packed up and decided there was enough time to make the TN Promo on Friday! I have to say kudos to TN for keeping the show running smoothly and quickly! Andrea wound up with 13-18 Reserve Eq. HP(received a nice embroidered stall storage bag). Becky Yarbrough earned her Reserve Overall 13-18 HP and this was the best I've ever seen Kido and Becky ride! Duffy also did really good on Kido too, he is such a multi-talented pony that still brings it on in gaming at the end of the day! So now it comes down to the Astins! Alyssa and Charlene were entertaining to watch! Mother and daughter (or dare I say the Master vs. student?) riding against each other and the placings going back and forth between them! I'm going to tell you a little secret, which Alyssa is going to kick my butt when she reads this: Charlene rides Mocha better than she does.... there I said it! Alyssa did beat her mom with JPFC HP on Maynard merely by one class placing... Just watch out for this daughter/mother team at the International! Heather did very well with Blackie in 8&U and wound up with Overall Res. HP and also Reserve Games! Her cousin Charlotte Astin rode on Blackie in 8&U W/T and got first in every class I think. Charlotte really loves to ride now, whereas in the past she didn't care, so look out for her because I  think she'll be tough to beat in 8&U! Cole Prince had a very good ride and several good placings on her junior pony Amber Rose! Amber is very tough to beat in hunter under saddle as she has those ground reaching strides and a canter to die for! Cole will be attending her first International this year on Amber! I can't wait for the International and see how everyone does!

A special thanks goes to Donna Zimmerman and her "team" for the making of Andrea Smith's western show outfits for the big shows! Lots of creativity, matching, and time was put into it! Another special thanks goes to Alyssa Astin for endlessly putting up with Andrea and getting her ready for this show season! I must get going, but if you know Tracy Keen, ask her how she wound up underneath the cart, while getting off?!? It's a hilarious story!
That's all for now folks!

It has been typical spring weather here, very windy or rainy some days! They don't call it April Showers for nothing! Unfortunately it called for our April 24th show to be canceled. It was pouring all day and even had some thundering and lighting. The following week was a local 4-H show, which it was was so windy that in the middle of a class all the horses stopped and riders grabbed onto their hat in the ring and waited for the wind to pass.  We are discussing a possible 2-day show in October for the canceled April Show.

I am excited to announce that we have FOUR poa members graduating, some are former members, but they have made a great contribution to our club that is worth mentioning here: Andrea Smith, Ross Walker, Caitlin Mahoney, and Paige O'dell.  Most of these graduates have started as leadliners showing and have grown up with confidence to train challenging junior ponies to be a nice finished pony. I remember when Ross first got Meeko several years ago and he had the most difficult time steering him! Now he can whip through poles at full speed and keep his helmet on the whole time! Last year he took on training TC Too Tardy To Speak and showed him at State 4-H! I will never forget when Andrea took on her first challenge, Scarlett, who was very green and young. In the first week, the pony would trample her if she spooked and while trying to put a bridle on she would drag Andrea all over who was still clutching onto the leadrope around her neck! That was a very rough year for both of them, but they gracefully matured, and now Scarlett is an awesome all around pony. Now she is training Secret Weapon and there are some crazy stories, but I can go on about Andrea forever, so maybe another time I'll tell ya! Caitlyn Mahoney has showed the longest in POA starting with Miss Muffet who taught Caitlyn everything about being an all around rider! She also had a baby out of Miss Muffet, named Mr. Cool which Caitlyn had successfully trained by herself. Caitlyn also trained Steel Magnolia all on her own and went to the International to kick some butt in youth versatility and jumping! After Maggie, she trained Sassy Zippin Boogie from weanling to 3 year old! Now she has stayed true to spots and is showing in the App word with Rudy. Last but not least is Paige O'dell who first started in the local 4-H, and then Kami Faircloth and Paula Beatty offered Truly Spendin Daddy's Money for Paige to ride, and off they went! She took that pony very far, within a year they were riding in everything and they learned together how to jump.  Last year she was placing first in jumping at Southeast Regionals! They all will be very much missed by our club!

We have 10 POAs showing at the State 4-H show in June this year! I believe that is the largest group of POAs going. Our 4-H team-penners for state are all POAs too! Meeko, Zees A Classy Dame, and KSs Amber Rose and the riders Ross, Lainey, and Cole will be working those cows! We are rooting for you guys! Ponies and riders representing other 4-H disciplines is Secret Weapon and As Sweet As Sugar with Andrea, TC Too Tardy To Speak with Ross, Miss Muffet with Alexis, Warlords Dreamcatcher with Peyton, and My Mister Magic and Siecks Drifer Dude with Briana! Some of us will show at the Southeast Regional in TN in the same weekend! I will certainly keep you posted on results in the next issue!

For the International Show, look out for Andrea and Secret Weapon, Cole and Amber Rose, Alyssa Astin and TC Doubles On The House, One Hot Mocha, and Heather Eidson and Heza Awesome Blacky!
